PGT Fence Installation: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

PGT fence installation in Fort Worth typically runs $3,500 to $9,000, with most complete perimeter jobs landing between $4,500 and $6,500 for a standard residential yard. We stock PGT-compatible post kits, gate hardware, and structural rails on our trucks, which means most installations start on the first visit without a second trip for parts. The way most Fort Worth homeowners find us is simple: they check the back fence after a spring storm and realize the posts are leaning, the gate drags, or a section has pulled clean off the rail. PGT fencing works well in this climate, but North Texas clay soil and high wind do a number on any fence system that wasn’t set deep enough the first time.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT’s residential fence product line splits into two main series: the standard rail-and-picket system and the heavy-duty post-and-rail configuration used for larger yards and wind-exposed properties. The standard series uses 2-3/8″ galvanized posts with a baked-on polyester coating, while the heavy-duty version steps up to 2-7/8″ posts with thicker rail brackets. Before you buy any replacement part, check the manufacturer sticker on the post cap or the inside face of a rail near the gate. That sticker will list the series code and sometimes the install date, which tells us exactly which post diameter, rail profile, and gate hinge set your fence was built with. On PGT fences specifically, the gate hinge pattern changed around 2017, and older hinge sets won’t match newer gate frames without an adapter bracket. That’s a compatibility gotcha we run into at least twice a month in Fort Worth. You can usually run a quality aftermarket post or rail on a PGT frame and get the same service life, but gate hardware is the one spot where we recommend staying with PGT-matched parts or an exact-spec aftermarket equivalent. The tolerances on their hinge pins are tight enough that a generic hinge will sag within a year.

Signs Your PGT Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Posts leaning at the base, especially after rain. This is almost always a concrete footing problem, not a post problem. Fort Worth’s clay soil expands and contracts enough to crack shallow footings, which lets the post shift out of plumb.
  • Gate dragging or refusing to latch. Hinges wear on the bottom pin first, and once that pin develops play, the whole gate drops by a half inch or more. You’ll see the latch no longer lining up with the strike plate.
  • Rails pulling away from the post. The rail brackets PGT uses are zinc-coated steel, but in Fort Worth humidity plus pool chemical exposure, they can corrode at the bolt point. This one looks minor until the rail lets go entirely.
  • Pickets cracking at the mounting screws. Texas sun bakes the polyester coating over time, and once the surface starts to chalk, moisture gets under the coating at the screw holes. The pickets expand, crack, and start working loose.
  • Bottom rail sagging or touching the ground. That’s usually a failed post-to-rail connection or a footing that settled unevenly. The bottom rail should sit 2 to 4 inches off the ground for proper drainage and airflow; when it’s on the dirt, rot and rust accelerate.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

Here’s the straight pricing for PGT fence installation in Fort Worth:

  • Single gate replacement (post, hinges, gate frame, pickets): $550 – $1,200
  • Partial rail replacement (one or two sections): $400 – $900
  • Full steel or aluminum fence run (50 – 100 linear feet): $3,500 – $6,500
  • Larger perimeter or gated driveway entry: $6,500 – $9,000
  • Post reset with new concrete footing (per post): $180 – $350

What drives the range is linear footage, how many posts need new footings, gate count, and whether we’re pulling the old fence or starting fresh. Every quote includes parts, labor, disposal of the old material, and site cleanup. You get a written line-item price before any work starts, and your final walkthrough includes a signed copy of the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If any part of the fence work fails within that first year, we return and fix it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

You can check a few things safely before picking up the phone: look for the manufacturer sticker on the post caps, measure the post diameter at the base, and note whether the gate drops when it’s half open. That helps us match parts over the phone. What you shouldn’t do is try to reset a concrete footing or pull a warped rail back into alignment yourself. A PGT fence post under tension can kick back when you loosen the wrong bracket, and a leaning section can come down faster than you expect. This is not garage door spring territory where one wrong move lands you in the ER, but a falling fence section with steel posts can do real damage to a person or a property line. The practical limit for most Fort Worth homeowners is swapping a picket or tightening a gate bolt. Once you see footing movement or rail separation, call (682) 204-4897 and let us quote it. The estimate is free, and the price you get in writing is the price you’ll pay at the final walkthrough.
