Ameristar Driveway & Pavers: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Ameristar-compatible driveway and paver components in Fort Worth at an installed price of $7,000 – $18,000 for a full paver driveway, or $3,500 – $11,000 for a paver patio. Most Ameristar paver and edge-restraint failures we see are partial, not total: a freeze-thaw heave along the northern edge, a crushed base course under a repeated tire path, or a settlement dip where the builder cut a drainage corner. The part you’re looking for usually isn’t a single “paver” – it’s the system: base rock, bedding sand, edge restraint, and the paver units themselves. Here’s how to match what failed to what needs to go back in.

Bradford Remodeling Co Fort Worth is an independent service provider, not an Ameristar dealer or affiliate. We work with Ameristar pavers because they hold up in North Texas clay soil, but the warranty on the paver units comes from Ameristar; the warranty on how they’re installed comes from us, in writing.

Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

A home office with a built-in desk and shelves

Ameristar’s residential paver line covers three families you’ll run into in Fort Worth: Holland/Perma-Edge (the classic 60mm rectangular unit, most common on driveways), Cobble (tumbled-edge, modular squares and rectangles, more often patios and walkways), and Slab/Plank (larger-format units used on contemporary driveways and pool decks). Each family has a specific joint width and chamfer profile, so you can’t mix a Holland unit into a Cobble field and expect it to lock.

The gotcha we see most: Ameristar changed its Paver Edge dimensions subtly around 2018. The older edge units are 60mm thick with a straight vertical face; the newer run 80mm thick with a slight bevel. If your driveway was poured with the older edge and you order a replacement by name only, the height mismatch will show. Pull one full unit, measure thickness with a tape, and bring it to us or text a photo with the tape in frame. We’ll match it before we quote.

On OEM vs. aftermarket: Ameristar pavers are made in multiple regional plants, and the Texas-run units have a slightly higher clay content for heat expansion. Generic big-box “Holland-style” pavers are not the same color, not the same density, and they fade differently under Fort Worth sun. For a driveway you’ll look at for 15 years, we spec Ameristar OEM or a proven aftermarket equivalent with matching fade ratings. We’ll tell you when aftermarket saves money and when it doesn’t.

Signs Your Ameristar Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Edge restraint pulling away at the driveway lip. The plastic or aluminum edging that locks the outside row is shifting because the base course wasn’t compacted past the paver line. Water gets in, then the clay under the edge goes soft and the pavers start walking outward. This is the #1 failure in North Texas, and it snowballs fast.
  • A low spot that holds water for an hour after rain. Not a puddle exactly, a sheen. That means the base rock beneath the pavers has settled and created a bowl. More weight (a parked truck, a delivery van) makes it worse. The fix is pulling the pavers, recompacting, and re-leveling that section – not just adding sand on top.
  • Cracks running through multiple pavers in a row. A paver that breaks clean through usually means something under it failed: a base rock void, a too-thin bedding layer, or a tree root pushing up from below. An isolated crack in one paver is a unit swap. A line of cracks means the base is doing something structural.
  • Sand washing out of the joints after every heavy rain. Polymeric sand in the joints lasts 4 – 6 years in Texas sun and rain, then it starts breaking down to powder. When that happens, the pavers lose their interlock and start rocking under foot. Re-sanding with the right product is a half-day job if you catch it early.
  • Wobble under a car tire you can feel from the driver’s seat. A slight rhythmic bump when you pull in means one paver has lifted at a corner or dropped at an edge. It’s not a repave – it’s usually a single-paver reset or a localized base repair. But left alone, that rocking paver will chip and crack, and the repair grows.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

Here are real Fort Worth numbers for Ameristar-compatible driveway and paver work, installed, based on what we’ve quoted across Tarrant County:

  • Full paver driveway (new install): $7,000 – $18,000 depending on square footage, paver family, and whether we’re pulling an old driveway first.
  • Partial repair – base recompaction and paver reset (a section, not the whole drive): typically $1,500 – $4,500 depending on depth and access.
  • Edge restraint replacement and re-anchoring: $800 – $2,500 for a typical two-car driveway.
  • Joint re-sanding (polymeric sand refresh): $350 – $900 for a standard driveway or patio.
  • Full paver patio (new install): $3,500 – $11,000.

What drives the range: how much base rock we’re replacing (not just adding), whether the old edge restraint is reusable, and how far the settled section extends under load-bearing areas. Every quote is a written, line-item price before a single tool leaves the truck – that’s The Garrison Standard, and it’s non-negotiable. Parts, labor, disposal, and the written 365-Day Done Right Promise are all in the number you sign. If the repair doesn’t hold inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: pull one edge paver and measure its thickness (60mm vs 80mm tells us the series), note where water pools after rain, and see if the joint sand is still hard or has turned to dust. Those details help us quote faster.

What you shouldn’t DIY: anything involving digging out base rock or lifting paver sections. The base under a driveway in Fort Worth is 4 – 6 inches of compacted road base on clay that shifts every wet-dry cycle. Hand-patching it with bagged gravel from the hardware store creates a new soft spot that fails within months – we’ve pulled more than a few DIY patch jobs where the homeowner spent a weekend and the paver was worse in six months. Paver work isn’t high-voltage dangerous like a garage spring, so we won’t lecture you. But it is weight-bearing, and the dirt under North Texas driveways is smarter than a bag of quick patch. Call (682) 204-4897 if you want us to come look at it – a written estimate is free, and Curtis Lane reads the job site before he reads a number.
