Wellborn Kitchen Remodeling: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
If you own a Wellborn kitchen in Fort Worth and a cabinet, drawer, hinge, or door has failed, a full Wellborn kitchen remodeling job typically runs $14,000 – $45,000 installed in this market. We match existing Wellborn door styles, finishes, and cabinet boxes so you don’t have to gut the whole kitchen to fix a failed section. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a drawer front pulls loose, a hinge shears, or a door no longer closes square against the face frame.
We’re Bradford Remodeling Co Fort Worth, an independent remodeling contractor. We are not affiliated with Wellborn Cabinet, Inc. We do, however, work with Wellborn cabinetry every week across Tarrant County, and we stock the common hardware, touch-up materials, and replacement components that keep a Wellborn kitchen serviceable without a full tear-out.
Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

Wellborn builds across three cabinet lines: Estate, Premier, and Select. The Estate line is their full-custom series with furniture-grade joinery and the widest finish palette. Premier is semi-custom, and Select is their stock line with the fewest modification options. Each line uses different hinge plates, drawer glide ratings, and door construction, which is exactly where compatibility problems start.
The fastest way to identify your Wellborn series is to look inside a cabinet door or drawer box for a printed label with the series name and a manufacturing date code. If the label is gone, measure the overlay: Estate and Premier doors typically run 1-1/4 inch overlay on the face frame, while Select runs 1/2 inch. That single measurement eliminates most mismatches before we order anything. For hardware, Wellborn has used Blum, Grass, and Salice motion hardware at different periods, and those are not interchangeable without drilling new hinge cup holes. We match OEM Wellborn components when the cabinet line is still in production. For discontinued series, we source quality aftermarket equivalents that match hole patterns and weight ratings, and we tell you which is which before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your Wellborn Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Drawer front pulling away from the box. This is usually a failed dowel or glue joint where the front attaches to the drawer side. Texas humidity swings from wet springs to dry summers, and wood movement eventually breaks adhesive bonds that were marginal from day one.
- Door won’t stay closed or sags against the frame. A worn hinge or a stripped hinge screw. On frameless Wellborn boxes, this often means the hinge plate has pulled from particleboard, not just a loose screw.
- Finish peeling at the bottom edge of doors near the sink or dishwasher. Trapped moisture from Fort Worth’s hard water and high-humidity kitchens breaks the conversion varnish seal. Once the seal fails, the MDF core swells and the door is done.
- Drawer glide grinds, sticks, or drops on one side. Epoxy-coated slides last longer than the older nylon roller types, but when a ball bearing cage fails, the drawer will bind. This is a replacement, not a lubrication job.
- Corner cabinet door hinges fail repeatedly after replacement. That’s usually the hinge being asked to carry a door heavier than its rating. We see this on Wellborn kitchens where original doors were replaced with heavier wood species or thicker profiles.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fort Worth, a Wellborn kitchen remodeling project runs $14,000 – $45,000 installed. Where a job lands in that range depends on whether we’re replacing a run of cabinets, refacing existing boxes, reworking a peninsula into an island, or pulling the entire kitchen down to studs. For isolated hardware or door replacement, the cost is typically under $1,000, but those jobs are priced as repair work, not remodeling.
Every quote we write in Fort Worth includes the parts, labor, finish matching, hardware, and disposal in one written price. We do not quote a number over the phone and then show up with a “revised scope” at the door. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work we perform for a full year: if a hinge we installed fails, a drawer we hung binds, or a finish we matched delaminates within that window, we come back and correct it at no charge. That’s The Garrison Standard, and it’s in writing on every job we close.
DIY or Call Us?
Cabinet hardware replacement is not a high-tension job like a garage spring, and a homeowner with a drill and a couple of hours can swap a hinge or a drawer glide. But there are two places where DIY goes sideways on Wellborn kitchens. First, drilling new hinge cup holes freehand on a $400 door is a one-way trip if the bit walks. Second, a door that sags because the hinge plate has stripped out of particleboard cannot be fixed with a longer screw. The substrate is gone, and the correct repair involves drilling, filling, and re-boring on a jig.
If you’re not sure which failure you’re looking at, call us. Curtis Lane and our crew read the job site before we read the quote, and a five-minute look at your cabinets tells us whether this is a $40 hinge or a $4,000 box problem. Reach us at (682) 204-4897.
FAQs

Wellborn cabinets typically last 20 – 30 years in Fort Worth homes, but the finish life is shorter than the structural life. Expect the cabinet boxes and face frames to outlast the doors and drawer fronts by five to ten years. Hard water exposure at the sink base cabinet and heat from ranges and dishwashers shortens both. If you address failed hardware and seals early, you extend the life of the whole kitchen without a full remodel.
Yes, in many cases. A loose dowel joint can be re-glued and clamped, a hinge plate hole can be bored, filled, and re-set, and a sagging door can be re-hung on the correct hinge. The exception is water-swollen MDF or delaminated finish, which we do not patch. Once the core fiber has absorbed moisture, the panel will not hold paint, veneer, or hardware reliably again. Call (682) 204-4897 and we’ll tell you which situation you have before you spend any money.
A full Wellborn kitchen remodeling job typically runs 4 – 8 weeks from start of demolition to final walkthrough in Fort Worth. A hardware and door replacement package, where the boxes stay in place, is usually done in 2 – 3 days. The schedule depends on whether we’re ordering Wellborn cabinetry or matching existing pieces, and we put the timeline in writing with the price before any work starts.
We stock common Wellborn-compatible hardware on the truck: hinge plates, soft-close mechanisms, drawer glide sets, and touch-up kits. Door and drawer box replacements are ordered per job to match finish, species, and profile. If you need a specialty hinge cup or a discontinued pull, we source it through our supplier network and confirm lead time before you approve the quote.
